｢霜の声｣ heavenly bodies conveys the pathos of things through the ephemerality of winter. With bare trees, frozen ponds, migrating birds and snow, I evoke the gentle exultation and grief at the awareness that their beauty is bound to the passage of time. I include 'rephotographs' of prints which retain every scuff mark, blemish, border and shadow, imparting a sense of touch and preciousness to a medium often viewed as mechanical and impersonal. Through space and emptiness, lightness and darkness, and cutting and reassembling my prints, I compose a visual rhythm that takes the viewer on a slow, attentive walk amid the minutiae of the world, just as the Japanese title, ｢霜の声｣ (lit. “voice of frost”) evokes the murmur of frost softly coating the land on a winter night.
